Buying a tower crane is not only about price.
For many contractors, the real question is simple:
Should I buy a new tower crane, or is a used XCMG tower crane enough for my project?
Both options can be right. It depends on your budget, project schedule, working height, lifting requirement, and how long you plan to use the machine.
For overseas buyers, this decision is even more important. Once the machine is shipped, any mistake can cost more money and time.
When a new tower crane is better
A new tower crane is usually a better choice when you want long-term use and lower risk.
If the crane will be used for several projects, or if you are building your own rental fleet, a new machine may give better value in the long run.
With a new tower crane, the configuration is clearer. You can confirm the jib length, lifting capacity, mast sections, working height, voltage, safety devices, and other details before production.
This is important because many buyers only ask for the maximum lifting capacity, such as 6 tons or 8 tons.
But in real work, the crane cannot lift the maximum load at the end of the jib. The load chart is more important than the model name.
So if your project has strict requirements, a new tower crane is usually the safer option.
When a used XCMG tower crane is a good choice
A used XCMG tower crane can be a smart choice when the budget is limited or the project needs faster delivery.
In many countries, used Chinese construction machinery is already accepted by contractors. A good used machine can help reduce investment cost and start the project sooner.
But the key point is machine condition.
Used equipment is not bad. Unclear condition is bad.
Some used cranes look good after repainting, but painting does not mean the machine is ready to work.
Before buying a used XCMG tower crane, buyers should check the main structure, mast sections, jib, hoisting mechanism, slewing system, electrical cabinet, safety limiters, wire rope, hook, motors, reducers, cabin, and complete accessories.
Photos are helpful, but videos are better.
A test running video, detailed machine photos, and loading photos can reduce many risks before shipment.
Do not only compare the price
Many buyers first ask:
What is your lowest price?
This is normal, but it is not enough.
For tower cranes, the real cost includes machine price, transport, installation, spare parts, maintenance, inspection, and possible downtime.
A cheap machine may become expensive if parts are missing or if it cannot work properly after arrival.
So the better question is:
Can this crane really work for my project?
That is more important than only comparing price.
How to choose
Choose a new tower crane if you need long-term use, clear configuration, stable performance, and lower uncertainty.
Choose a used XCMG tower crane if you need to control budget, shorten delivery time, and the machine condition can be clearly checked before shipment.
There is no perfect answer for every buyer.
The right machine is the one that fits your project and helps you work safely.
